Does the Aqara P2 report battery level to Apple Home over Matter?
No public document from Aqara or Apple states whether the Door and Window Sensor P2 exposes battery percentage to Apple Home over Matter. Matter defines battery reporting in the Power Source cluster, but neither Aqara's product documentation nor Apple's Matter accessory support article says whether that attribute is implemented or displayed. Owner reports on Aqara's own forum conflict, and firmware version appears to be the variable.

Why this page does not give a yes or no
The honest answer to this question is that the documentation does not contain one, and the point of this page is to show that rather than guess. Nothing below was tested on hardware.
Three things would have to be documented to answer it properly, and none of them is:
- Does the P2's firmware implement the Power Source cluster's battery percentage attribute over Matter? Aqara's published user guide does not state the device's Matter cluster or attribute list.
- Does Apple Home render that attribute for a contact sensor? Apple's support article on Matter accessories lists supported accessory types — including contact sensors — but publishes no per-attribute rendering list.
- Does the behaviour vary by firmware? The forum evidence suggests it might, and no Aqara release notes resolving it were found.
What the standard establishes
Matter carries battery information in the Power Source cluster, cluster ID
0x002f. That the cluster is real and in active platform use is verifiable
from a second platform's documentation: Google's supported-clusters table,
last updated 16 September 2026, lists Power Source 0x002f mapping to its
EnergyStorage trait with the Battery feature.
So a mechanism exists in the standard. Whether a particular device implements it, and whether a particular platform displays it, are separate facts — and they are the two facts nobody publishes.
What the owner reports show
An Aqara forum thread opened 24 March 2026 is the clearest public record. Its content, reported as user statements rather than as findings:
- The original poster stated that when the P2 is added to Apple Home, no battery percentage is shown, and reported running firmware 1.0.0.0 with no upgrade offered.
- Another participant posted a screenshot showing the battery percentage displaying, and asked which firmware was in use.
- A third noted that firmware versions 1.0.1.1 and 1.0.2.0 had been recalled, adding that those recalled updates "apparently also include the upgrade from Matter 1.0 to Matter 1.4."
- The original poster later said they had confirmation that the latest official firmware remained 1.0.0.0.
No response from Aqara staff appears in the thread, and no official explanation was found elsewhere.
Reading it carefully: two owners of the same product model report opposite outcomes, with firmware the most plausible difference between them. That is a hypothesis the thread supports, not a conclusion it establishes — the screenshot's device could differ in firmware, region or pairing route, none of which is recorded.
The Matter 1.0 to 1.4 detail, and why it matters
If the recalled firmware did carry the P2 from Matter 1.0 to Matter 1.4, then units on shipping firmware are running the version of the standard from 2022. Attribute support broadened considerably across the intervening releases. That would make "which Matter version is this unit running" a more useful question than "is this unit broken" — but the claim is a forum participant's, not Aqara's, and it is recorded here as such.
What to do with this
- Before buying for this specific capability: treat battery reporting to Apple Home as unconfirmed for the P2. Public documentation does not promise it.
- If you already own one: check the firmware version in the Aqara Home app and compare it against the thread. The vendor app shows battery state regardless.
- Do not read a missing percentage as a defect. Three different causes produce an identical symptom here, and none is publicly distinguishable.

Where can a battery reading be seen instead?
The Aqara Home app is the vendor's own surface for the device. Owners in the same thread also reported reading battery state through Home Assistant. Neither is a statement about what Apple Home does.
